I'm having a similar problem on Feisty with a Compaq X1000 (ipw2100) and
a DLink AP (DI-614+).  I made a post about it on the Forums <a
href="http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=376055">here</a>
describing all the details. Basically it has no trouble associating with
the router but it times out during authentication (GROUP_HANDSHAKE).
WEP works.
