Looks like the DVD-RW is now seen and
displays an Icon on the desktop.

However, the comment in  /var/log/messages is

cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!.

The DVD has the Kubuntu Live CD burned to it
and the normal DVD reader recognizes tracks
on it and it will display the folders/files etc. in  Konqueror
