Yes this is still happening.

When the screensaver is set to come on automatically, a blank screen appears 
and there is no requirement to login when you move the mouse / press a key, 
it just goes back to the desktop. If you 'Lock Screen', then it works fine.

Perhaps this is something to do with the ACPI? Or maybe the nvidia-glx driver 
on the SLI cards?
