I don't know if this is exactly what the original poster was talking
about, but I find Adept Installer ("Add / Remove Programs") to be
*really* slow. I've always just apt-get install'ed things, but I'm
trying the GUI out now that I've got newbies on Kubuntu.
The problem is that, every time I check a box, the GUI freezes until
*all* dependancies, etc. are checked. This really gets in the way of
usability and makes me want to just drop to a shell (which I can't
recommend to newbies).
Since Qt has such a great signal-slot mechanism, why can't ticking a box
just fire off a signal to a worker thread, which updates the list of
packages to install in the *background*? As it is, it's really quite
irritating.
I don't have much time, but I have some Qt experience, and I'd be
willing to look at this issue if the patches are likely to get
considered.
