I just seem to have "fixed" this problem by some manipulation of the view profiles.
In Settings/Configure View Profiles...  I had two profiles listed:

            Simple Web Browser        (I think)
            Web Browsing

I deleted "Web Browsing" and Renamed "Simple Web Browser" to "Web
Browsing"

(I'm not sure about the name of the "Simple Web Browsing" profile as it is now gone,
and I can't remember).

The way I noticed this was to when I added the "Konquerer Profiles" applet to the
Panel, and then I could create new windows using the various profiles, and I
noticed that the standard "Web Browsing" profile was messed up.
