[Bug 117770] login loop when finished installation of kubuntu-dsktop, using kdm insteda of gdm

Public bug reported:

KDM cant find user for authentication and loops back to login on Feisty.

Many reports of this bug and forum entries can be found... no one has
posted a credible fix.

Little to no core team activity to define/address the issue across
multiple releases of kubuntu-base.

workaround adopted by many community users has been to use KDE with GDM
as default.
