I have seen both of the problems listed above.

I can confirm that it appears to be fixed.  I had over 17k emails
showing up as unread in kmail.  After updating, I deleted my account and
re-added it.  After kmail sync'ed, there were maybe 40 unread messages,
which may have gotten marked that way from the older version of kmail.

I won't know until tomorrow when I go to the office whether or not
reading from another location marks the email as read at home.  I'll
only post again if there was a problem.
