I can confirm this bug, too.

KMail version 4:3.5.6-0ubuntu6 on Ubuntu Feisty.

Mails are fetched from a POP3 server - hence not a protocol issue. 
The KMail configuration and Emails were imported from a previous Ubuntu version (Dapper). Perhaps its regarded with the import of the old configuration files and emails?

Any ideas?
