Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

Was attempting to mass upgrade using Adept Package Manager. Adept
stopped at "Replacing kdm with new version..." and gave me the vague
error message, "There was an error committing changes. Possibly there
was a problem downloading some packages or the commit would break
packages." (Adept needs to let us see the dpkg session or more details
in such a case. That silly message never helps me solve anything!)

I hope the automatically gathered data has something that can help you,
because right now this is all I've got. :(
