Im having the same problem with hardy heron and ive tried everything
everones suggested and i cant fix it..

Every time i open amarok or anything that plays music like totem or
mplayer or anything even on firefox or opera i cant listen to any audio
and it isnt going away..Ive posted a thread about this..actualy two
threads about this in ubuntu forms and no ones has even said
anything..please help...
