Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdenetwork

I have a nforce 680i chipset and I can't get the network cards to work.
They work great in kubuntu 7.10 with dhcp or static ip.

I tired the Live CD's for Alpha 5 a while back and recently for Alpha 6
and networking simply did not work, even when I installed it to the hard
disk it still didn't (I restored back to 7.10 from a backup). I have
Ethernet networking that's built into my motherboard, which has a nForce
680i chipset.

I even did an upgrade from Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04. The network cards
didn't work that way either.

I even tried ubuntu 8.04. Live and install. Did not work.

Normally my PC connects via DHCP, but even when I set it to use a static
IP in the Live CD's settings it still refuses to work.

When I boot the Live CD I just let knetworkmanager attempt to connect
via DHCP. I don't get an error as such but I just can't connect to my
network. It says it's connected but I can't access my router's config
page or browse the internet. and apt can't connect ether.

When I look at the settings the IP address is ether 0.0.0.0 or some
random IP that's nothing like the ones used on my LAN. Even when I setup
the IP and everything manually it doesn't work.

The other thing is it will affect the connections of the other PCs on my
network. When the kubuntu 8.04 PC starts up it will stop all the other
connections from working. Shut down the PC and the other connections on
the otther PCs will start backup (I Tested this theory a dozen times).
It acts like it is running a dhcp server but it is a stock desktop
install without dhcp.

No clue I am lost. The problem is in the network manager most likely.

** Affects: kdenetwork (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
