Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Every once in a while, when logging out from KDE in Hardy, the monitor
goes black, except for the mouse pointer which is still moving. I have
seen this problem on several (identical) computers.

Last time it happened I captured all the relevant information that I could think about:
- output of `ps aux`
- /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Then I did a Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, which took me back to a text terminal, but gdm did not restart (the Xorg process was listed as <defunct> afterwards. Same output collected when this happened. I'll also attach ~/.xsession-errors, but the timestamp seemed to be from well before I logged out.

One issue that may complicate things: The computers have NFS-mounted
home directories. I know network problems can sometimes lead to strange
behaviour when the NFS server doesn't reply. In this case the NFS
mounted directories looked fine when I ssh'd in.

Is there anything else I can try to capture when this happens next time,
to find out what goes wrong?

** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
