[Bug 193964] [NEW] Network-manager applets (kde and gnome) die on start

Both knetworkmanager and nm-applet die on start with different error
messages:

Error message of knetworkmanager:
knetworkmanager: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libkdeinit_knetworkmanager.so: undefined symbol: nmu_security_serialize_none_with_cipher

Excerpt of /var/log/daemon.log after trying to run knetworkmanager: 
NetworkManager: <info>  Updating allowed wireless network lists.
NetworkManager: <WARN>  nm_dbus_get_network_data_cb(): nm_dbus_get_network_data_cb(): dbus returned an error.   (org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply) Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)

Error message of nm-applet:
nm-applet: symbol lookup error: nm-applet: undefined symbol: dbus_method_dispatcher_new

nm-applet doesn't produce any error message in daemon.log.

The network-manager-daemon itself is running and is taking care of eth0.
