I have the exact same problem. From log-out menu suspend+hibernate works
flawlessly, from kde-guidance hibernate works but suspend does not.

dcop `dcopfind -a 'guidance-*'` power-manager suspend
No suspend happens

dcop `dcopfind -a 'guidance-*'` power-manager hibernate
Machine hibernates
