I have a similar problem. There is "Front" channel which I set as master
channel. But when I try to change volume with keyboard wheel, volume of
PCM channel is changed instead. The volume display in the middle of the
screen shows Front channel though. Mute key works correctly.

Kubuntu 8.10
HDA Nvidia audio
Logitech G15 keyboard with G15Daemon
