I also found that gheeke's solution workds for me, but, if this isn't a
bug, it's very bad user interface design. The order that you follow the
steps matters - and I can't see why it should.
If I add a static connection and then delete the system-created dhcp
auto-eth0 connection, the dhcp connection is silently reinstated on
startup, regardless of how I toggle the System Setting and Connect
Automatically flags. However, if I reverse the order and delete the
dhcp connection before adding my static connection, I get prompted for
my password when I recreate the new connection and the new configuration
survives a reboot. I've tested this behaviour on two different Intrepid
boxes, one of which was a clean install and the other a Hardy upgrade.
