Still the same problem, but
$ apt-cache policy knetworkmanager
knetworkmanager:
  Installed: 1:0.7svn864988-0ubuntu1.8.10.3
  Candidate: 1:0.7svn864988-0ubuntu1.8.10.3

Though I did an update and dist-upgrade just now
