Okay, I'll paint a more specific picture. I'm using Konqueror to open a CSS file on my local machine and another CSS file through ftp (with konqueror) on a remote server. I open both files with kate and place both kate windows side by side. Highlighting is set to CSS for each kate window. I highlight a single line of code in one kate window (it doesn't matter if I use the remote or local file), "line-height: 1.4em;" is the line I'm currently trying, but it has the same behavior with any line. Then I use the right-click menu and select the "Copy" item. Then I focus the other kate window. I click on the area where I want to paste the copied text, then right click and use the "Paste" item. The selected text is pasted correctly. But as soon as I focus (click on) the other kate window (the one the text was copied from) the selected text disappears as if I had used the "Cut" command instead.
Both files are coded correctly other than sometimes I use "//" as CSS comments when I'm trying little styling changes. Syntax highlighting is on for both kate windows. Hope that helps.
