[Bug 289289] [NEW] no sound after kubuntu upgrade

Public bug reported:

There is no sound after a kubuntu upgrade to 8. I have fiddled with some
settings (seems system settings sound from auto detect to oss did the
trick) Sound came back slowly (bit by bit, first desktop, then mplayer,
then amarok etc)
