Having had a closer look this sounds like it might be related to bug
272378, although I'm not sure yet why it's crashing in your case. If
your missing notes were created in Hardy then you may find them in
/home/you/.kde4/share/apps/knotes/notes.

If the bug 272378 matches your situation then we can mark this as a
duplicate
