Made some more experiments:
X does *NOT* crash with the "nv" driver instead of the proprietary "nvidia" driver :(

Please reassign to package nvidia-glx-new...

I'm using:
nvidia-glx-new             169.12+2.6.24.14-21.48

The crash is 100% reproducible.
