It works for me.
But a zip with a zip inside it, will fail to open.

kmail --version
Qt: 4.4.1
KDE: 4.1.1 (KDE 4.1.1)
KMail: 1.10.1

ark --version
Qt: 4.4.1
KDE: 4.1.1 (KDE 4.1.1)
Ark: 2.10.999
