Tested last revision (859085, 2008-09-09) from svn, doesn't work either.

Now, the funny thing: used the gnome applet in parallel which also tries to connect but does not work. But it seams to get a little bit further because it tries to connect and this is also indicated through knetworkmanager (rolling wheel and the half bar is shown).
I currently tried to connect to a WPA2 encrypted network which doesn't work. Can't change the encryption.

So maybe some of you should install package "network-manager-gnome"
logout and loginto kde and then the applet is shown and try to connect
through this if at least this works.
