No showdowns so far? How boring, you should change the channel :p

There seems to be no connection between the project size and the slow
down. I kept deleting parts of the text and it was still there even with
only a few lines of text left. Especially slow is highlighting multiple
lines (shift+up/down). I also noticed that scrolling down hardly lags at
all on my machine, while when I keep the up key pressed for a while,
kile keeps on scrolling for easily for another page or two, depending on
how long I pressed it.

I have included a chapter of my diploma thesis. There the describe
effects are very visible (at least on my machine).
