Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kpackagekit

I keep getting this error message when trying to install updates:
"Cannot get the exclusive lock on the packaging backend. Please close any other legacy packaging tools that may be open."
The "Details" button adds this: "Only use one package management programme at the the same time."

After waiting for a while hoping that the mysterious program would exit, and then restarting the system, I still got the same message. Finally, I ran "sudo apt-get upgrade" manually, and got:
"E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem."

What does this have to do with exclusive locks or legacy packaging
tools?

** Affects: kpackagekit (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
