Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace
Hi there,
I've had this bug since the beta FGLRX drivers first let me have 3d at
all on Jaunty, but didn't report it before as I figured it was just a
beta driver thing (they have been replaced with the final by now haven't
they?).
Anyway here's what happens:
If I enable Kwin's Desktop Effects (even with none of the effects
selected) it goes through the following steps:
1. The screen blanks to nothing but the Plasma wallpaper and mouse pointer for about 10 seconds.
2. It flashes back to my normal desktop for about 1/2 a second.
3. Repeat of step 1.
4. Repeat of step 2 and then for 1/2 a second I see the desktop with no desktop effects, but window decoration faulty, mainly just showing dark boxes where window decoration should be. Sometimes Plasma will die at this point (with the taskbar etc. disappearing). Sometimes a pop up appears saying "Failed to activate desktop effects with the current configuration".
Then it goes back to my normal desktop with Desktop Effects turned off.
It does this with 100% reproducability.
