Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtk-qt-engine

In short, gtk-qt-engine is a very buggy, unmaintained piece of software.
It:
- Causes major crash issues with gnome-appearance-properties with recent versions of Qt (bug 297111, bug 335029)
- Largely doesn't work properly: (https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk-qt-engine/+bugs?field.searchtext=&orderby=-importance&search=Search&field.importance%3Alist=LOW&assignee_option=any&field.assignee=&field.bug_reporter=&field.bug_supervisor=&field.bug_commenter=&field.subscriber=&field.status_upstream-empty-marker=1&field.omit_dupes.used=&field.omit_dupes=on&field.has_patch.used=&field.has_cve.used=&field.tag=&field.tags_combinator=ANY)
- Professed unmaintained upstream, unless somebody sends in patches. Nobody has, and it has been almost a year since its last upload.

It's GTK+ appearance configuration module for System Settings (about the
only thing that works) has been salvaged/forked into the kcm-gtk source
package, and is maintained by myself.

For integration, Kubuntu is using the QtCurve widget theme which looks like Oxygen, our default theme.
Once gtk-qt-engine is removed, I will have a kcm-gtk upload sponsored that will provide a binary transitional package for gtk-qt-engine.
