- [karmic] Some KDE graphics operations have suddenly become very laggy
+ [karmic] Some KDE graphics operations have suddenly become laggy
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace
- Yesterday, without any warning, some of the graphics rendering
- operations on KDE 4.3 became incredibly slow. The two most noticeable
- are the desktop icons/folderview icons, and anything related to the
- Plasma panel and Kickoff. Mousing over the desktop icons shows obvious
- lag between when the icon selection background should appear and when it
- actually does. Also, the translucent selection rectangle, which was
- before liquid smooth throughout the entire range of travel, now becomes
- unusably slow if any icons are selected. Also, widgets in the Plasma
- panel (Quicklaunch, the K menu button, etc) now show quite a delay
- before they light up. In Kickoff, the selection indicator also lags
- significantly behind the mouse cursor. If you select an icon and try to
- move it, that lags too. Finally, the animated switching of panels
- inside Kickoff is slow and laggy.
-
- I did not update any relevant packages that might have caused this. I
- have an nVidia 8600m GT with the 185.18.10 drivers, but the problem
- occurs with any driver version.
+ On a fresh install of Kubuntu Karmic with KDE 4.3 Beta 2, there are two
+ graphics operations which are quite slow. The first one is the
+ translucent selection rectangle on the desktop. In Beta 1, it was
+ smooth and fast. Now (with Beta 2) when any Icons are selected, it
+ becomes much slower and jerkier. The other problem is that the file
+ selection indicator in Dolphin lags very far behind the mouse. This bug
+ has always been present in KDE 4.3.
