mmm...I've  just noticed that the fix is now also in kde 4.2 branch.
This means it will be in kde 4.2.2, which is scheduled to be out on the 1 of April.
Hopefully jaunty will ship with this version of kde and get this fix for free.
In this case there would be no need to backport.
