Same problem using fvwm -- I have nothing kde or gnome running

problem is new with new clean full installation done yesterday
(03-16-2009)

this is on an IBM X60 laptop

flicker also every 10 sec and Xorg.0.log reports as follows on each one:

(EE) intel(0): underrun on pipe B!
