I don't believe this is a duplicate, as this only seems to affect
Karmic. I had very similar setup on Jaunty and this did not happen.

Also the bug that has been flagged as the duplicate seems only to be an
issue when Gnome and KDE are installed on the same system, I do not have
Gnome installed on my system.
