Hi Auge,

sorry for the delay: thanks for pointing that out! my home dir really
seems to be encrypted in addition to the LVM thing. No idea how I ended
up with this.

This whole thing got a new quality after upgrading to Karmic. I went to
check whether auto-login worked after the update, only to find that if I
enabled auto-login, my home dir wouldn't decrypt anymore after booting.
I had to drop to a root shell, and disable auto-login manually in
/etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc .. totally messed up.

Removing this configuration as you suggest seems a bit too tedious for
me to try right away, but I eventually will. Thanks!
