[Bug 543878] [NEW] kubuntu boot fails after update to lucid beta 1

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-runtime

upgraded to beta 1 from kubuntu karmic
no errors during update process when rebooting if i start on new kernel installed with beta (2.6.32-16-generic)
does boot ok however with 2.6.31.19-generic

during boot process it hangs on a black screen shortly after hearing
some cracking and low volume white noise from speaker
