Same for me, something is really broken and dangerous here in Kubuntu.
Some times the tray for the copy-task is done in one second, even when copying hundreds of megabytes!

I have to check with"watch -n1 sudo iostat -m" when the writing has finished.
Then, to avoid corruption i always have to execute "sync", which often tage ages to complete, before klickeing "remove" for the USB drive.
