I had this problem.  Same idea: after setting up a printer, the System
Settings module no longer works.

It seems repeatable: I purged all the cups* packages (which removed the
printer I'd just set up). The Printer Configuration module worked again,
and I was able to set up the printer again. Once I'd done that, the
Printer Configuration module stopped working again.
