Public bug reported:
According to the digikam website, the following is the list of required
packages for digikam:
https://projects.kde.org/projects/extragear/graphics/digikam/repository/revisions/master/entry/README
CMake >= 2.8.x (only for building)
libqt >= 4.6.x
kdelibs >= 4.4.x
liblcms >= 1.17.x
libtiff >= 3.8.2
libpng >= 1.2.x
libjpeg >= 6b
libjasper >= 1.7.x
libkipi >= 2.0.0
libkexiv2 >= 2.0.0
libkdcraw >= 2.0.0
libkface >= 2.0.0
libkgeomap >= 2.0.0
Currently attempting to install on ubuntu 11.10 requires pulling in much
of the kde desktop! Even running
sudo apt-get --no-install-recommends install digikam
to avoid recommended packages still pulls in things like phonon,
akondai, marble, plasma, and mysql. I believe this is largely to due
with the fact kdepims is mark as required, when digikam lists it as
optional. This should be re-packaged to require only the required
packages, with the optionals being listed on such. In it's current
packaged state, this is essentially undesirable under gnome/unity, since
the weight of these extraneous packages and services is a large burden
to simply get a qt based app.
This appears to also affect debian:
