I am not on Ubuntu, but on openSUSE 11.4, but i have this same bug and
with an ATI grapic card:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Redwood [Radeon
HD 5600 Series]

And i can confirm i have this problem when i have opened either okular
or dolphin for a while. And i don't have to change desktops for it to
happen.

KDE 4.6.00
Okular 0.12
Dolphin 1.6
