That is true. From the upstream bug report: "The problem with backporting it is that it has to add functions to the
okularcore API, and AIUI the Okular maintainers don't want API additions there
in a release branch."

Anyway, Opensuse has made a patch for KDE/Okular 4.7.3:
https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/91021 that maybe is adaptable.
