I believe something is royally broken in your setup that makes lightdm
not work and the aformentioned session types (KDM going black and then
back to login is usually an indication of session startup failing and
then either terminating or crashing X to begin with ... e.g. a KWin bug
in the Plasma session would cause similar behavior).

Please try to login and then fetch your ~/.xsession-errors file of that
user (via a TTY or by loggin in via another user - do not login with the
same user into another session or the errors file is overwritten!)
