Did you try KMail2, as it is available for some time now?

If so, does it solve you problems/implement your ideas?
If not, you should open a upstream bug, as suggested by the previous comment: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdepim/+bug/396329/comments/2 So the KDE developers can see whether the idea is valid and/or ask additional questions.
