[Bug 1098786] [NEW] Phono fails to save selected sound device

Public bug reported:

I have a USB headset and a set of speakers plugged into the 3.5mm jack in my PCs soundcard.
I get sound, and everything works great except switching outputs. I'd like to switch between outputs (between the headset and speakers).

I set the master channel in kmix to the headset and adjusting the volume works.
However, when I go into phonon settings and the "Audio Hardware Configuration" tab, I select the USB headset and click apply. When I play audio it does not save the settings and still plays through the speakers I have plugged in. When I reopen the settings I notice it reverted back to using the speakers so phonon is not saving the settings.

I tried and installed pavucontrol and that utiltiy was able to
successfully change outputs but resulted in weird behavior (such as
clementine crashing when audio starts to play) and I'd like to be able
to manage the devices through phonon.

I'd be happy to provide any additional info if it is needed.
