Public bug reported:
With 4.11 Beta kwin is able to run on top if wayland, if wayland support is enabled at compiling time. There is a howto by Martin Graesslin

If you try this in kubuntu, we only get the standard wayland/weston
shell without the KDE Stuff. wayland/weston runs very smooth here. so it
should run. kwin/ Plasma rund great on X (i'm on Intel Hardware) so
there should be no problems.
The Problem is that the KDE session doesn't popup. after a little
research this could be the problem of no wayland support in kwin.
so just a question: is there wayland support? if not: why not? will it enabled later? i think many people are interested to play and test this.
