Public bug reported:
If VMware and/or Dropbox are allowed to display an icon on the task-
manager panel it creates a significant memory leak. After several days
of operation, xorg memory usage climbs over 300MB and things come to a
grinding halt. Only an X server and desktop restart will cure things -
until the next time. I have tried two different Nvidia graphics cards
(GeForce 8600S and GTX650), three different levels of the nvidia driver
(304,319,325) and the nouveau driver. None of this had any affect.
Only removing the icons solves the problem - very obviously and
completely. Seems to be triggered when pixmaps from non-KDE apps (GTK)
are displayed?
I find quite a number of reports from other users on SuSE, Arch Linux
and general support forums that appear to be the same underlying issue.
I am running
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS
Release: 12.04
KDE4 components are all version 4:4.8.5-0ubuntu0.3 or
4:4.8.5-0ubuntu0.1. Plasma is the former.
** Affects: meta-kde (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
