Public bug reported:
Please see the details on the KDE bugtracker at: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341078
(and the same bug under a different title at: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=340456)
The problem, according to the Ark maintainers, is that Kubuntu has changed the library from infozip to libarchive, but has not made the required bugfix for this to work properly:
"This is a bug in the Kubuntu packaging -- they've inherited a patch from Debian that changes the backend used for zip archives, and their version does not have the ability to modify zip files. Debian has since fixed it, but Kubuntu has not caught up."
It would be really cool if this could be fixed, because it makes Kubuntu
look bad if new users produce a zipfile which won't open on proprietary
systems like Micorosoft Windows.
