David,

I think is another reason, not powerdevil. In my case the kded5 was
using a 100% CPU since the start, and the file
org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper.service solved the problem.

When kded5 is sucking CPU like a crazy, do:
1-ps aux | grep kded5  (grab the pid)
2-sudo gdb --pid ${pid of the process here}
3-thread apply all bt

And attach the output.
