The same happens with KUbuntu 15.10 Wily Werwolf. Plasma is very unstable.
I tried to disable *all* Desktop Effects (System Settings; don't forget the "not supportet by compositor" and "internal" desktop effects!). So the plasmashell crashes occur only seldom. Mostly after manipulating widgets. 

TTY windows are just blank and it seems not possible to use them.
