Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

I can confirm that I see the same error messages when attempting to run
obgui from openbabel-gui 2.3.2+dfsg-2.4build1 on Ubuntu Zesty. I am not
sure how bad this issue is, because at first I thought the program
wouldn't start at all.
