Simon, thank you for taking time to respond to this old complaint.
Indeed, the issue has been resolved. I've moved on from that computer and am now using Plasma 5.5.5 with which the touchpad is working fine, just as I like it.

Catching up on these kinds of bugs is frequently done without clearing
the notes entered on Launchpad, which is the goal, of course. Getting
these notes up to date is sometimes more busywork than anything else.
Thanks for taking the time and making the effort.

I'd recommend marking it "Fix Released".
