Hello, I'm not sure this is the right thread to pipe in, so feel free
to tell me to go blabber in a more appropriate place :) But it seems
pretty much pertinent
I've just recently downloaded, burned and tried out the Kubuntu DVD. I
chose to opt for the DVD because it has both an install and a live
options; I haven't installed it yet, but I did do a testdrive of the
live system yesterday, since I want to pass it over to my father too,
to let him test Linux without mangling with his system.
I was negatively struck by the fact that the Live distribution not
only didn't mount my Windows partitions (I have three of them, an NTFS
one and two FAT32), but it also required su-done hand-editing of
fstab. This was a no-brainer for me, but it would be uncomfrotable for
my father.
Basically, my complaint is that the media:// protocol by KDE doesn't
seem to be powerful enough. OTOH, I couldn't find documentation about
it either, so ...
One thing that would be useful to see in the live Kubuntu is the
possibility to at least mount the local hard disks, if not
automagically with as less user intervention as necessary.
I was thinking about something like dragging the media to a mount
point to mount it: this wouldn't even require fstab manipulation ...
