Login and logout sounds

I have sound usually turned muted and only turn it on when I need it.
However, sounds are really notifications. So regarding the question
if sound is necessary, it should be thought about what information the
sound is giving. I do not think that a login sound is necessary in most
cases, since if you sit on the computer, you see when you can use it.
Furthermore,
the bootup times are now a lot faster hence it is not necessary as
in the past to switch on the computer, do something else and come back when
the login sound is heard.
Similarly, for the logout. With the computer automatically switch off after
shutdown, not sound is really necessary in most cases.
Hence, for my purposes of a proper system, I would disable both sounds,
the mere fact that it is configurable allows everybody to change it if
they want.
On the other hand, for marketing purposes, you probably want to have
very distinct
sounds that everybody knows, in order for everybody to know that there
is another
Open Source User around when people login/logout in pubs, cafes, etc.
So the question should really be, what is the purpose of having such
notifications!
